Chicken Noodle Yum!

Another classic and easy favorite!

Start with a pressure cooker or slow cooker with two cups of water

1 pound of chicken breast

2 cups of fresh or frozen string beans

2 cups fresh or frozen carrots

2 medium zucchini sliced and partially skinned (My dogs don’t like the peelings, but I think they are good for them!)

3 teaspoons of eggshell calcium

1 cup dry noodles

Put everything into the cooker except the noodles. I cook mine for 12 minutes in the pressure cooker if the chicken is frozen.

Once it is done cooking, mash everything with a potato masher and add in the dry noodles. Put the cover back on to let the noodles cook in the hot liquid!

Cool and serve! 1 cup per regular cup of dog food is the serving size.

Store in the fridge! My dogs like it room temperature or cold.

Pupcakes!

Max’s birthday is tomorrow! I made him my classic pupcakes recipe this morning in preparation!

1.5 cups of peanut butter

1/2 cup applesauce

1 egg

1 tablespoon honey

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 cup flour

A few old fashioned oats for garnish

Mix all wet ingredients together in a bowl. Then add in the dry ingredients just until mixed. Add the oats on top for a garnish.

Put in cupcake liners and bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes

Once cool, add a dollop of peanut butter on top and a milkbone to really make it a special treat.

Makes 10!

Penny!

Penny or Penny-girl, sugar pie, honey bee, Penny Jane (when she is in trouble!), or honey bear is my second dog. She came into my life in May of 2019 through a dog rescue. She is a wonderful two year old girl, and Max instantly adored his new sister.

Rescuing dogs is something I believe in, and I am so blessed to be this baby’s new mama. She is such a sweetheart and loves to play and go for adventures.

Penny made herself right at home. She refuses to sleep on a dog bed at night, so she snuggles right up by my legs every night. She didn’t take up much room a year ago as a 1 year old, but she has grown now!

She also loves to eat! I switched her to Max Food (what I call his homemade food) within a few weeks. Her coat became super shiny, and she is the picture of health now!

Penny absolutely loves games. She goes crazy with excitement when we play laser tag or hide and seek. She barks and runs and gives away everyone’s hiding spot or position, but we don’t mind. It is amazing to see a dog so happy.

Homemade dog food!

The first few years of Max’s life, I  constantly worried about his nutrition and dog food. Even though I had him on high end food, he just didn’t seem like he felt well. His stomach would make noise, and he sometimes wasn’t interested in eating. His coat was kind of rough too. He also had super sensitive skin and was really allergic to bee stings and other insect bites. I carried Benadryl with when we walked, and by the time Max was about three, I was giving him allergy medicine almost every day.

He also developed a bump under his chin that was sketchy looking. I took him to the vet, and they wanted to cut it out and test for skin cancer. I had known that Boxers are prone to cancer, but I was shocked that he could have developed it so soon in his life.

I had just gotten into essential oils and was loving the effects on my health. When I was researching frankincense, I learned that it was being studied for cancer healing. I decided to try and heal Max’s spot with frankincense and coconut oil. I put it on three times a day for six weeks, and it did heal completely!

The fact that Max had developed a possibly cancerous spot in his first three years of life deeply disturbed me. I read tons of articles on dog health, dog food, and cancer in dogs. I  finally came to the conclusion that it had to be his food and began the process of learning how to home cook for him.

It was terrifying to take his nutrition fully into my hands and to go against everything I had ever heard from vets  and dog food companies. The crazy thing is that Max started feeling better within days of switching to home cooked food. He also absolutely loved eating his food!

Max turns 7 this Wednesday, and he hasn’t had an issue with bee or insect stings/bites and hasn’t needed Benadryl since a few weeks after the food switch! His coat is so smooth and shiny, his teeth look great for his age, and he still loves to eat. He loves trying new recipes and makes me feel like an amazing cook every day!

Welcome to a site totally devoted to my amazing dogs and our life together!

“Oh, what would the world be like without dogs?” (my grandma).

My baby Maximus came into my life almost 7 years ago. I have always loved dogs, and we had many amazing ones as I grew up on my family farm.

I had never before shared my home with a house dog, however. The first few seconds of officially owning one was not the picturesque image of a playful puppy running into my arms and giving me a gentle kiss as I smiled and hugged him. No, Max did not run; he barrelled into my beautiful new home at 8 weeks old and promptly peed on the white carpet! Then he chased my two cats who had bravely come over to investigate this strange creature before proceeding to go number two in a corner, again on my white carpet!

Despite our slightly rough start, Max soon became an important and vital part of my life. In our years together, he has been my constant partner from our many walks to our adventures to snuggling time, my guardian, and my best friend.
